The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Bruce Billson, has implored small businesses to take urgent action to safeguard their brand and identity on the internet or risk seeing impersonators, web-name ‘campers’ or cyber criminals take up domain names just like theirs.
The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Bruce Billson has welcomed the Albanese Government’s move to introduce legislation to ban unfair contract terms for small businesses.
“This is a real problem for small and family businesses and it is very pleasing to see this election commitment being progressed so quickly by the Small Business Minister, Julie Collins, and the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury, Andrew Leigh,” Mr Billson said.

More than half of the nation’s big businesses are missing their own deadlines for paying their small business suppliers, according to the latest data from the Payment Times Reporting Regulator.
Changes to Commonwealth procurement rules that take effect today will create more opportunities for small business to win government contracts, says the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, Bruce Billson.
“There is no substitute for customers and it’s great to see the Commonwealth’s commitment to be a bigger customer for small businesses,” Mr Billson said.
An increase in the national wage and higher superannuation payments are among a raft of changes starting on July 1 that small and family businesses must be aware of, says Bruce Billson, the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman.
“With so many pressures on small business owners and managers as we near the end of the financial year it can be easy to overlook the new rules that will apply from the start of the next financial year – which is this Friday,” Mr Billson said.
