About Policy

The ASBFEO understand the challenges facing small and family business. We undertake a number of different activities to advocate for small businesses and family enterprises to improve policies affecting them. We do this by:

  • providing advice and insights to policy and decision makers
  • conduct research
  • deliver inquiries
  • comment on legislation
  • provide advice to Ministers
  • outreach and engagement activities.

The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman's Small Business Counts statistic report brings together data and analysis from the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Bureau of Statistics and Austrade.

The purpose of the report is to be a resource for government, public policy makers and researchers to improve their knowledge and understanding of the Australian small business sector.

Our research informs policy development affecting small businesses and family enterprises.

We investigate if there are issues and how to address them.

A deeper look at specific issues and providing solutions to government.

We make submissions to a range of inquiries and reviews held by government departments and agencies, as well as those from other entities. These submissions provide policy insights and ensure the voice of small business and family enterprises is heard by decision makers during their policy development processes.
